The Media That Cried Bear: The Mainstream and Alternate Media's failings on reporting on Russia and Ukraine.
There are no good guys in Ukraine: stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I will be presenting information from both sides, as that I have not studied the west’s conflict with Russia nearly as much as I have studied, say, Israel’s influence on American foreign policy.
I am, however, woefully unsatisfied by even the alternate media, dealing with men who are very intelligent but also stubborn.
As I do not have the time & energy to sift through all of the information to determine what is true & what is propaganda, I implore you to listen to both sides (Ryan Dawson says to read everything).
I apologize if this feels unrefined, as that this is closer to a resource list than an article. I do not know everything. My job is not to give tell you a perfect analysis of everything, but more like give you resources to start analyzing things & come to your own conclusion.
Correctly sifting through & doing analysis of everything going on can be done, but it would be a full-time job.
Winston Churchill once described Russia as “a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma”.
If there is something that I am leaving out or simply wrong, just tell me in the comments section instead of calling me a shill for one side or another. And tell the media to tell the objective truth instead of spreading propaganda for one side or another.
Ry, if you don’t want me to post Russia-related content on your VK profile, just tell me either on VK or saynotodemocide1 at protonmail dot com & I’ll stop posting said content instead of blocking me. I’m just trying to get the truth out.
This article will be split into 5 parts, which are:

Part 2: What was going on in Ukraine and Russia before.
Part 3: My commentary on where the Alternate Media is failing.
Part 4. Should we worry about totalitarianism? Plus sources to follow.

Basically, Duginism is a totalitarian philosophy for advancing a dream of a Russia-centric Eurasian world, a Soviet Union 2.0, if you will. Another good comparison would be Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four’s Eurasia (which, in Orwell’s world, has Neo-Bolshevism as its ideology rather than National Bolshevism). Part of this is by making other countries like Finland, which are nominally independent, pretty much subservient to the Russian state.
The left & right has done virtually nothing to combat Duginism because they do not know what it is, & partly because they are too hysterical & incapable of knowing what they're up against. Dugin also speaks in a confusing manner on purpose.
Video description:
"Russian ideological subversion did not end with the fall of the USSR - it merely changed its approach. Aleksandr Dugin's "neo-Eurasian" ideology is now targeting impressionable minds of the far-Right in particular - but also certain corners of the far-Left (e.g. Syriza).

“Sadly, there is little qualitative writing in English about Dugin and/or Duginism. Part of that is intentional (Duginism is not meant for English-speakers) & part of that is simply because most of the writing in English comes from fans - which is... problematic to say the least :))“
When it comes to understanding Russian philosophy & ideology, YouTube user Niem Fpmak recommends “Philosophical letters“ by Pyotr Chaadayev;
Philosophical letters, & Apology of a madman, by Pyotr Chaadayev
An article that I highly recommend reading is
Should the Alternate Media Support Putin & Russia?,
though it covers general politics instead of just foreign policy.
When it comes to Moscow’s claims of de-Nazifying Ukraine or fighting fascism, if you know about Alexandr Dugin & his ideas, you know that is insincere. It is easier to call your enemy a name & to simply fight an enemy than to fight for an objective value, such as individual rights, for example, which governments don’t do because upholding individual rights would mean going against their own interests (less power for themselves). Hitler can say that was fighting Stalinism. Stalin can say that he was fighting Nazism. Both were militarist totalitarians who do not value human life or even basic human dignity.

When it comes to what to do, I do not know the answer. However, I’ll mention that both Jake Tran & NFKRZ, both of whom dislike Putin & his regime, has criticized sanctions (financial & economic sanctions, not weapons sanctions).
Even though I hate Putin/Dugin, I’m not getting behind Zelenskyy. He’s banned opposition parties & consolidated the media, turning Ukraine into an autocracy. And even before that, the Ukrainian state was an extremely corrupt, with the resulting poverty & lack of trust making ethnic Russian secessionists feel that joining Russia would be the lesser evils for them.
Part 3: My commentary on where the Alternate Media is failing.
So basically we have one side that is imperialist, corrupt & does not care about the Ukrainian people’s best interests against another side that is imperialist, corrupt, authoritarian, & wannabe totalitarian in a war that can cause mass starvation.
I do not have a soft spot for Russian culture & I hate Russia’s government. But, if Ukraine’s critics are right, the Ukrainian government did provoke this by abusing ethnic Russians, attempting to ban the Russian language & doing things like not allowing Crimea to secede & shelling Donbas instead of letting them leave peacefully. Though I do not know to what degree the referendum to leave is legitimate.
On one side, there is propaganda from the pro Israeli, Saudi, American military-industrial complex & corptorporacy order, & on the other, is propaganda from an authoritarian regime that is aspiring to be a totalitarian National Bolshevik regime.
I do not want an Orwellian Eurasia to be created, but I do not want starvation either.
I love Ryan Dawson, but he is woefully ignorant on Duginism & Putin’s dreams. I would not describe him as pro-Putin, but rather anti-Neoconservative, & sees the Russia’s actions in the Russo-Ukrainian War as supporting self determination rather than building up an Orwellian Eurasia.
Despite Dawson’s VK posts, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that he is not a shill for Putin, particularly considering how he permitted me to post videos on vid.ancreport.com, advocates things that would not coincide with Moscow’s interests, such as fracking & other fossil fuel & general resource exploitation (I’ll also mention that he supports the Iran Deal, which can mean more competition to Russia’s oil industry). As a dedicated follower of his, I do know that he has a crass sense of humor (off-color humor), posting things just to mock & irritate his enemies. I also know that he has been fighting the mainstream media & the neocons his entire life, & has faced defamation, & has faced heavy censorship from big tech, so it is expected that he’ll laugh at his enemies whenever they lose at anything.
Another thing keep in mind that, for many years, he has done research & reporting on bleak, depressing, dark topics. Topics such as corruption, war, has seen images of children being brutally killed in war, & human & child trafficking. All of that is enough to make a man go crazy. But unlike, say, love her or hate her, Lauren Southern, who took a year off from politics & has seen her mental health improve, Dawson is nowhere near that lucky to be so well known, considering how he talks about Israel, multi-billion dollar corporations that influence the media & reports on corruption from multi-billionaires. He can not afford to take a lot of time off. But he has a family, a wife & three sons to feed in Osaka, Japan, an expensive place to live (he lives there so he can access good hospitals because of one of his son’s health issues), & he can not afford to go crazy, either. So while we have our differences, I have to understand his use of off-color humor & empathize with his situation & how much stress he is under.
I do not know who to believe. I hear one side reporting that Russia is committing war crimes while another side reporting that Russia is holding back & being merciful & that it is Ukraine committing war crimes, & one side reporting that Russia is failing miserably & another side reporting that Russia is succeeding.
Reminds me of Nineteen Eighty-Four, in which you just have no idea what the truth is. It also reminds me of what ShortFatOtaku said after 16:45 in his video Just The Facts, Ma'am, in which it is so difficult to trust any institution.
The mainstream media already has no credibility from lying so much.
The idiom Crying Wolf means to raise false alarm. So I call blaming Russia for anything that happens is bad or what someone dislikes when such blame is unwarranted as Crying Bear.
The media cried bear so much about Russia doing bad things such as interfering in the 2016 United States Presidential Election & more than I have the energy to write down, to the point where people don’t believe them.
I love both Ryan Dawson & Freedom Alternative/Lucian Valsan. Both men are very intelligent, but they are also stubborn & I doubt that they’ll look at the other side in this case. Dawson lives hand-to-mouth & is always busy, while Valsan is arrogant (maybe he got that way from arguing with Social Justice Warriors so much. Then again, I have to understand why he would be more emotional about opposing Russian imperialism, considering how he survived the dictatorship that was Nicolae Ceaușescu’s Romania). StormCloudsGathering is good-intentioned but a bit sensationalist.
If you look through my content, you know I love Ryan Dawson. He is great, not perfect. He has gotten minor details wrong, such as describing the leader of the opposing force in Millennium Challenge 2002 as an Admiral when he is a Marine Lieutenant General, or saying that guns are banned in Chicago, France or Britian when gun laws are merely restrictive, & has confused the word “authoritative“ for “authoritarian“.
Nonetheless, remember that no one is perfect. I am not perfect. But we should appreciate & praise individuals for their greatness, instead of putting down & cancelling individuals for their relatively minor flaws.
I wish Ryan would move off of VK & onto Minds & Gab, where people won’t have to worry about censorship (as that it is illegal to criticize the Russian government).
The reason why people cheerlead for one team or another is because we want to believe that there is someone who is both powerful & good, & it is terrifying to think that there are no good guys to save us. For similar reasons, people turn to religion for comfort in a chaotic & terrifying world.

Here’s a comment from Perun’s How Corruption Destroys Armies - Theft, Graft, and Russian failure in Ukraine:
"My big caveat for this one is that trying to get details on Corruption in Russia is always murky and difficult. Much of the whistleblowing that makes it into English is put out by opposition figures who are probably telling the truth in most cases, but it's hard to verify the stories. I've tried to rely on academic papers and Russian statements for this one, but just make sure you understand the limitations and difficulties being precise here. "
"And one final comment - because it seems to come through on all my videos. I often see comments that say that any critique I make of the Russian armed forces is propaganda because they're insert claim about Russia winning the war here and so the critique can't be true. I want to stress that Russia making gains and also suffering badly from economic, budgeting, or corruption issues is entirely possible. It's entirely possible to have a Russian force that poorly allocated its budget and suffered from corruption still achieve some goals. The reason I focus on corruption, or budgeting, or what not in a given video is because each video needs to stick to a topic, and can't be on the progress of the war in general.
When I get to myth busting again, I will try and filter out some of the propaganda from both sides to assess performance to date as best I can, but for the moment, this video is on corruption."

From Ukraine - Putin's big OOF by LazerPig:
"I have no idea what the **** is going on &, to a point neither do you. War is chaos, okay, especially a war like this one where we have, let's be honest, a country who spends almost as much money as anything else chest thumping itself with memes across the internet trying to prove itself as some sort of major military power to 12 year olds for no **** reason rather than to try & convince its own population that it's still a major world superpower & not a comedically dying influence in world politics, also known as the British empire syndrome, & another country who has presented footage of video games as combat footage & has blatantly claimed a lot of the **** twitter made up as a joke to be true because it makes them look good.
But I don't know, maybe there really is a guy swimming around the black sea with a knife destroying submarines. In my heart, I want to believe it, even if i know that's complete ****ing bull****. As such, we have such a vast mix of reports from all matter of news sources each determined to be the first to get that big scoop & cash in & all those clicks meaning there is little, if any, effort to actually fact check what is being suggested. I believe it was Terry Pratchett who said the lie can get twice around the world before the truth has got its bits on.
Then on top of that you have all the social media & my uncle knows a guy who knows a guy who has a vegetable shop in Kiev & I personally interviewed every soldier in Russia & wrote it down & I've actually been to an archive so I know things buddy' & of course the propaganda from both sides. It's a mess, so ****ing knows what's actually going on."
I personally would like it if Ryan Dawson had a debate with LazerPig & especially Perun.
-
When it comes to why Putin declared war, I don’t think that it came after a hangover from having too much vodka with his buddy Dugin. I think that something forced Russia’s hand, considering how Dugin planned to use subversion, divide & conquer to take over nations on the Eurasian continent, & even both Riley Waggaman/Edward Slavsquat & Scott Horton thinks that Putin declaring war was dumb from a strategic standpoint. It could be biolabs in Ukraine, collapsing demographics & economy, opposition to NATO expanding, a combination of aforementioned factors, &/or even something else entirely that I’m not aware of.
-
As much as I privately joke about Russians being barely functioning vodka addicts, in all seriousness, as Whatifalthist said in What’s Going on in Ukraine?,
“The main character trait that you can give the Russians credit for is unbelievable stoicism. This is the nation that fought off the Mongols, Nazis, Napoleon, & so many others. A country that was nearly conquered by the Germans twice in a fifty-year period, bloodied in a Civil War, brutally repressed by possibly the most evil tyrant ever, & still became one of the most powerful nations in the world. Do not underestimate the Russians.“
Part 4. Should we worry about totalitarianism? Plus sources to follow.
Should we worry about totalitarianism?
I am cautiously optimistic that good will win in the long term, as that so many totalitarian regimes (not authoritarian regimes, that’s different) collapse within approximately a generation.
Stalinist Soviet Union: 22 years.
Maoist China: 27 years.
Nazi Germany: 12 years.
Imperial Japan: 24 years.
Qin China: 11 years.
Taiping China: 13 years.
-
Reasons:
Soviet Socialism: the economic system failed & those who rise to power tend to be power hungry megalomaniacs.
Imperial Japan & National Socialist Germany: mixed with militarism, their extreme racism made them declare wars recklessly & alienate potential allies since they thought they were the master race, which eventually killed them.
Legalism: “No one believed in it. They were just terrified of being killed.” The same may be said about Stalinism.
Taiping: the Emperor was a delusional madman who failed to hold the nation together.
Eritrea & Turkmenistan have existed for a bit over three decades, & are isolated & rather small countries, as with Taijikistan. North Korea is on life support. The Tokugawa shogunate lasted for 265 years, including the last 15 years of its existence, on a Confucian rice-farming island.
(Sorry for stepping on the toes of supporters of Soviet Socialism, German National Socialism, & dictatorships.)
That was based on
The Four Trends of the 21st Century.
and
The Crisis of the 21st Century.
-
Due to Russia’s economic stagnation & collapsing demographics (What's Going on in Ukraine, How Russia Will Die | Peter Zeihan, Russia’s Second Collapse | George Friedman, Explaining the Borders of the 22nd Century), I think Russia is a threat to the west in the short to mid term, but not in the long term (as with China).
In the 22nd Century, perhaps Russia will be humbled after getting through its vodka hangover, be integrated into the west & be de-facto western. It took them a couple of centuries longer & a whole world of pain & suffering than it should’ve, but better late than never.
If you REALLY want to follow what’s going on on the ground in Ukraine, a few individuals & media outlets that I recommend to follow the Russo-Ukrainain War in addition to my normal recommended alternate media sources are:
Politics:
5. Perun
8. Ryan Dawson
9. GEOPOP
NFKRZ recommends The Moscow Times & Meduza. However, I'‘m myself am unfamiliar with the reliability of these sources.
I have nothing against Dawson, but Perun seems to be less biased to me. I take GEOPOP with a grain of salt. I endorse all of the above sources except for GEOPOP, The Moscow Times, & Meduza.
Honorable mention:
-
And a list of sources that report on the Russian point of view:
1. Ryan Dawson
2. The Duran
6. ANNA-News
7. Xoaquin FIores - New Resistance
8. Life.ru
I also suggest looking around on Telegram.
I do NOT endorse any of the Russian-point-of-view sources except for Ryan Dawson, & even we have our differences on Putin & Russia.
I include these sources mostly for people who are at least semi-serious analysts, as that I am a content aggregator who talks about the political side of war, not a war analyst or journalist that analysis the military side of war. As I said, correctly sifting through & doing objective analysis of everything going on can be done, but it would be a full-time job.
There probably are good sources on Russia out there. I simply do not know about them.

Part 5. A word from StormCloudsGathering.
SCG may be a bit sensationalist, so take his word as you will;
https://t.me/OpenSourceTheNews/66229
“As this war heats up you will see many cheering for one flag or the other; promoting escalations and retaliations. This is a trap. Who exactly benefits from a major war that sends millions of young, fighting age men and women to slaughter each other in Eurasia (at the precise moment when civil disobedience with teeth was beginning to spread)? And what do you suppose is about to happen to the monetary system now that Russia is being cut from SWIFT? Did you consider the fact that not only does Europe depend heavily on Russian gas (that the U.S. cannot even come close to replacing), but Russia and Ukraine also happen to be the world's two largest wheat exporters comprising approximately 30% of global production? All of Ukraine's exports have been halted, and with Russia cut off from the western banking system all future customers will have to work outside the dollar. Even if the physical war were to be contained to Ukraine (spoiler alert: it won't), the consequences of the cyber and economic warfare already underway will be devastating. Western leaders are setting their populations up for much more than just parabolic price increases. Widespread shortages and famine are on the horizon. This will not be a short term phenomenon.
Most of you understand by now that the WEF was the vehicle used to plan and coordinate the pandemic response (Event 201), but were you aware that there were two other exercises? Study the "Cyber Polygon (https://cyberpolygon.com/)" and "Food Chain Reaction (
)" exercises. Did you know that Russia played a prominent role in Cyber Polygon? Did you notice that the Russian government sent a representative to speak about Russia's central bank digital currency project? And did you know that Putin (like Trudeau, Macron, Andern and so many others) participated in Schwab's Young Global leader program? Putin has admitted publicly that he has spent a great deal of time in Davos with Schwab and associates, and has signed Russia on to a 4th Industrial Revolution project of its own. Putin is in on the plan. He plays an essential role in The Great Reset by kicking off World War 3 proper.
In this context the WEF is a lot like the WWF (World Wrestling Federation): only in this version instead of breaking chairs over each other's heads they send your young people to kill and be killed. And as the war spreads in ways that "no one could have predicted" and cyber attacks start taking out communications and critical infrastructure they get to blame a foreign enemy for all the chaos and destruction that comes next. Don't fall for it.
Have you forgotten that the politicians directing each of these armies are the same criminally corrupt, genocidal control freaks that ruined your lives for the past two years, and who still intend to mandate yearly booster shots (and all manner of horrors) as soon as they get a chance? Oh, you thought that was over? Think again. In the U.S. a federal vaccine passport system is moving forward with bipartisan support (A National Vaccine Pass Has Quietly Rolled Out – And Red States Are Getting On Board), and the WHO has the global version ready as well. Round two of the pandemic is baked in the cake. And if you thought round one was bad, wait till you see what government's are capable of in a lights out scenario.
We must use these last moments of the free internet carefully. This is our last chance to influence how people respond to these events (police and military in particular). This is the last chance to make them understand that the enemy isn't overseas, and that serving justice will mean arresting those issuing the orders.”
